By Matt Brennan • What the RFI? Episode 15
A busy CA workload can leave little time to improve how the work gets done. Episode 15, originally recorded around Matt’s 2025 goals, offers a useful approach for any year: write the goal down and decide how you will follow through.

Lessons from Episode 15
Choose a specific change
A goal such as “get organized” is difficult to act on. Choose a visible result instead: bring an RFI log up to date, establish a weekly follow-up routine or make meeting actions easier to track.
Connect the goal to a problem you experience repeatedly. If you spend time hunting for answers, improve retrieval. If issues drift between meetings, improve ownership and follow-up. That connection makes the effort easier to sustain.
Make room for the work
Matt encourages listeners to consider personal goals as well as business goals. A professional improvement plan needs to fit the time and energy available. Avoid committing to several major changes while the team is already struggling with delivery.
Write the next action beside the goal. Give it an owner and a realistic review date. A short trial can show whether a new tool or routine actually helps before the whole office adopts it.
Check progress instead of starting over
Schedule a quarterly review and keep the original notes. Record what improved, what did not work and what still needs attention. That history helps distinguish a useful adjustment from a new idea that merely sounds exciting.
The episode discusses AI and better logs as possible improvements. The wider lesson is to choose deliberately. Keep the practices that make project information more accurate and accessible, and revise the ones that add effort without a clear benefit.
Your next step
Write down one professional goal and why it matters.
Choose the first action and a review date.
Measure a practical result such as retrieval time or overdue actions.
Review progress each quarter and adjust the plan.
