About Matt Brennan and What the RFI?

Matt has been in the industry for over two decades, 25 years to be exact; He has seen it all. From an early adopter of Architectural Desktop to becoming a lead implementer for Revit, Matt has been a leader of change. He has seen and watched how the industry has shifted and grown. Throughout his design journey, 15 years have had him focusing on Contract Administration on various projects.

Matt has thoroughly enjoyed working on high-profile projects such as K-12 institutions, signature high-rises, milestone hotels, performing arts theatres, and multimillion-dollar homes that are featured yearly in “Vancouver BC - Top Most Expensive Houses” articles.

In keeping his skills fresh, Matt has also had his thumbprints in the media and film sector. With each project, a story would need to be told. For Matt, he wanted to share this story in a way that anyone who could not read drawings and plans could relate to. Rather than just rendering a project, he would be responsible for coordinating rendering shots, which would ultimately be composed into a short cinematic film that would be presented to the public.

With technology advancing so fast, Matt is excited to see where the Architectural industry is headed.

While not recording his podcast, Matt continues to explore the outdoors. Through overlanding, canoeing, paddle boarding, hiking, travel, you name it!

Can you keep up Matt?

Entertaining, Insightful, and Real

What the RFI? is one of my favorite podcasts in the construction and development space. Matt has such an easy, natural way of talking with guests as it never feels like a stiff interview. It’s more like you’re listening in on two people swapping stories from the field and sharing what they’ve learned along the way. It’...

50% Canada-U.S. Tariffs Hit Construction: What Happens Next?

Canada-U.S. tariffs are hitting construction, raising new questions about material costs, steel prices, procurement, contracts, and who ultimately pays when prices suddenly change. With new 50% U.S. tariffs affecting billions of dollars of Canadian goods and Canada preparing retaliatory measures, construction materials including steel, aluminum, lumber, cement, plywood, paint, and other building products are caught in the middle. In Episode 48 of What the RFI?, Matt Brennan looks beyond the p...

Construction Occupancy: How to Prepare for the Final Inspection

Your construction project is 99% complete. The walls are painted, the flooring is down, the lights are on and everyone is talking about move-in day. So you’re basically done, right? Not even close! Getting a building ready for occupancy requires months of preparation, testing, documentation and coordination between the contractor, consultants, owner and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). In Episode 47 of What the RFI?, Matt Brennan kicks off a four-part series on construction occupancy and ...

Before You Dig: Earthworks, Geotech & Stripping Plans

You want me to strip what? Some of the biggest financial risks on a construction project happen before the building ever gets out of the ground. In Episode 46 of What the RFI?, Matt Brennan digs into earthworks, geotechnical reports, test holes, stripping plans, and the steps architects and owners can take to reduce the risk of costly surprises underground. Because a $100,000 earthworks budget can turn into $1 million in extras remarkably quickly when actual site conditions don’t match what e...
